Tips For Keeping Your Rented Toilet From Tipping Over

If you have an upcoming event at your home and want to hold the festivities outdoors, then it may be wise to invest in a portable toilet or two. Portable toilets are self-contained, clean, and they are secured and removed by the rental company. However, there are some cases where a portable toilet incident may occur. Incidents involving a tip over can be tragic and messy and there are a few simple things you can do to prevent a mishap.

Choose A Level Area

The simplest thing you can do to avoid a tipping issue is to make sure that your portable toilet is secured on a level area of your property. Walk over different locations to make sure there are no divots, rocks, or other types of debris that can lead to the tipping of the toilet. Make sure the ground is not soft and also use a level.

If you have soil on your property that is a mixture of silt, sand, or decaying organic matter, then this may simply be too soft of an area for the placement of the toilet. Make sure the toilet is placed on a piece of blacktop or concrete.

If there is no suitable place for the toilet, then ask your rental company to lean it up against a building. You want the toilet to gently angle towards the building to reduce a tipping problem. Two or more toilets that are placed next to one another are also likely to be far more sturdy than a single one that is secured on an uneven surface.

Add Stakes

If you have a sturdy ground area but are concerned about wind or other adverse weather conditions, then it may be wise to have the toilet staked down. This is also a good idea if the toilet will be rented for a longer period of time.

Staking incorrectly can actually cause the toilet to tip, so it is best to have your rental company do the staking for you. The company will often add a single stake that is attached to each corner of the toilet, much the same way that a tent is staked to the ground.

Weights can also be added to stakes for extra security, and they can be tied to concrete blocks that are placed on the ground around the toilet, so this may be an appropriate solution for your event, too.
